Gascia Ouzounian

A historian and theorist of sound, and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Oxford. She is the author of Stereophonica: Sound and Space in Science, Technology, and the Arts (MIT Press) and the forthcoming The Trembling City (MIT Press), which explores how sound and vibration shape urban life during siege, occupation, and war. Ouzounian publishes extensively on the cultures, technologies, and histories of sound and leads the Sonorous Cities project, which investigates how sound influences everyday urban experience — including situations of violence and armed conflict. She frequently collaborates with artists, architects, and urbanists on projects that reimagine the acoustic city. Her recent works include Scoring the City (experimental urban notations), Concrete Dreams of Sound (sonic materialities), and Quiet Urgency (urban sound ecologies).
