Michaela Turcerová is a Slovak composer and saxophonist who brings to life the hidden and otherwise unheard colors of musical instruments. In her piece IN FLUX[50], she merges alterations of the alto saxophone’s body with surreal amplification, external sonic objects, and sine waves, forming a hybrid percussive organism. The transformed sonic object finds itself in an intimate electroacoustic space, freed from the traditional expectations, history, or cultural identity of the instrument. In the words of Jakub Juhás from the mappa label — “a cyborg saxophone stripped down to its raw material.”
