Monopoly Star Child Searchers
Trained as a photographer, Spencer Clark began engaging with music nearly twenty years ago. He drove several notable moments in 21 st century ‘niche’ music. As one half of The Skater with James Ferraro, he helped revive ambient new age in the mid-00s. While this aesthetic has somewhat lost authenticity during the past decade, Clark remained faithful to his psychedelic, modal and experimental principles, far outside commercial waters. Monopoly Star Child Searchers became one of Clark’s chief musical platforms. The above elements ring just as clearly on Barbados Wild Horses, created in tandem with Cameron Stallones AKA Sun Araw. Like their collective work Clark’s ecstatic solo concerts boast a throbbing percussive energy, blending elements of Moroccan ritual music, Saharan blues, rhythmic West African percussion, Japanese electronic fusion with influences from the American DIY ambient and experimental breeding ground. The album saw light during Clark’s stay at the Canary Islands and recovers the atmosphere of local nature, the breath of a volcanic country and unique climate. Something like the early Oneohtrix Point Never on a psychedelic holiday in the Central Atlantic.
