Martin Hurych
Martin Hurych is an artist and curator living and working in The Hague (NL) and Lubná (CZ). His work oscillates between the media of sound art and architecture, based primarily on reflections on the character of the specific site. The artist is known for a certain amount of exaggeration and warm humor, but at the same time he is sensitive to social problems, which is an issue he critically draws attention to with his works. As a curator, he collaborates with artists moving across different genres of music, sound and visual art. Hurych is a co-founder and art director of the Přespolní association, organizing a cultural programme in the countryside of the Czech Republic (since 2017). He is also the dramaturge of the experimental electronic music festival Bučení (since 2018). Hurych graduated from architecture at ARC FAST BUT (2008–2015) in the Czech Republic, completed his bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Technology in Brno (since 2015–2019), and his master’s degree at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague (2020–2022). He worked as an assistant at Studio Intermedia I, which is located at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2018–2019), and as an assistant to sculptor Jiří Příhoda (2012–2018). He currently works as a research associate at the Institute of Sonology (since 2022).
