Bára Gísladóttir
The music of Icelandic composer and double bassist Bára Gísladóttir is based on an approach and conception of sound as a living being. This Copenhagen-based musician’s work is characteristic by a profound, sometimes nearly meditative peace. Her compositions appear as though to distort time: once in a spiral trajectory, at other times linearly.
Gísladóttir studied composition at the Iceland University of the Arts in Reykjavík, Conservatorio di Musica ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ in Milan, and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. She sits in many international ensembles. She actively interprets and regularly performs her own music solo or with her long-time colleague Skúli Sverrisson. In the recent years she has steadily headed toward interdisciplinary productions. At NEXT, she will present her composition Silva, featuring protracted double bass drones and electronica.
