Blackhaine
Blackhaine is the moniker of English dancer and rapper Tom Heyes. His performance is likely to be one of the angier and darker concerts you’ll witness at NEXT; Blackhaine channels the post-Brexit despair and fear he sees in his abandoned industrial surroundings in North West England and combines this with disturbing choreographies inspired by Japanese Butoh. Seemingly hopeless and aggressive, he only finds freedom in what he calls “negative ecstasy”. Industrial electronics, drill rap, ambient noise – this music is as direct and intense as Kanye West’s Yeezus, while also maintaining the smokiness and mystery of the post-ambient tapestries of Space Afrika. Truly genre-shattering stuff from one of Britain’s most promising artists right now.
