Tirzah
The festival opening introduces Tirzah, arguably one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary pop music. Her two albums released on Domino are tender, shimmering masterpieces. The London-based artist’s mesmerizing voice sings about devotion, trust and kinship, accompanied by sparse, catchy instrumentals. Her pop songs are quite hazy, almost avant-garde, but Tirzah’s directness lies in a unique kind lyricism – she is able to capture the most complex of emotions through simple, repetitive mantras. “Her music is generous even through its haziness,” says Pitchfork in their Best New Music review of Colourgrade. Strong recommendation for fans of everything between Jessy Lanza and Grouper.
