Panel Discussion: Creative Music and Social Action

Participants: Gívan Belá, Julia Reidy
Moderator: Andrej Chudý
What is the role — and potential — of creative music and sonic art in breaking social boundaries, changing tolerance to the “other”, and democratization of approaches to music making? How can we translate pushing aesthetic limits and challenging audience expectations into breaking the mental and cultural stereotypes? Whilst not openly political, how can the avant-garde, often technologically driven musical practice, inspire social change? Is social action through experimental music and art possible?
Keywords and topics: artistic freedom, improvisation, collaboration, representation of diversity in the experimental music scenes and club culture, gender balance, social and political potential of creative music: identity, expression, community.
