Nicolas Collins
Nicolas Collins is an author, composer, professor and constructor of experimental instruments. While born in the USA, he spent a large portion of his professional career in Europe, including the position of an Artistic Director of STEIM – Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music in Amsterdam, or as a DAAD composer-in-residence in Berlin. His book Handmade Electronic Music – The Art of Hardware Hacking has been influential in electronic music circles worldwide. Collins now teaches on both continents and continues his creatives. Currently he performs with a custom built modified trumpet with a built-in speaker and electronics. He will perform three pieces, utilizing a computer program to behave like glitching circuits, electromagnetic feedback, and a flickering candle controlling the tuning of several oscillators: !trumpet (2018), Roll, Pitch and Yaw (2021) (world premiere) and In Memoriam Michel Waisvisz (2008).
